  • Group show-Beyond Figuration

REpose Gallery is proud to present Beyond Figuration, a group show featuring the paintings three of Project 465’s resident artists Devin Dobrowolski, Rebecca Moy, and Thomas Jacob Walther. This exhibit addresses the work of these artists within the context of contemporary visual culture and art history. The December 5th opening will include a reception from 6 to 9pm and a brief artist panel discussion from 6:30 to 7pm. The show runs through February 5th, 2009 and will be located in Gallery 131, on the mezzanine level of River East Art Center, 435 E. Illinois Street, Chicago, IL.
...Thomas Walther’s paintings evoke an invented world where images represent “real” places with absurd pairings of subjects and chronologies. His images elicit contradictions that unfold slowly to the viewer, alluding to the spectacle of contemporary media in a shrinking global community. Within his gray-scale paintings, imagery and color are distilled to allow the perceptible realities of the work to be isolated as content. Walther earned an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002 and is a professor at Wright College.
